Nate Guernsey Wins Grand Agg in South African Championship
In a spectacular showing of ability and equipment, Team Lapua’s Nate Guernsey put his abilities on full display at the 2025 South African Open by scoring a 659-75V and securing the Grand Aggregate title.
Guernsey showcased exceptional marksmanship by securing 3rd place in both the South African Championship and the State President’s Match (300, 500, 600m). Highlighting the competition, Guernsey claimed 1st place in the Grand Aggregate, the prestigious Colonel Bodley Match (900m), and the Long-Range Aggregate. Notably, during the first stage of the State President’s Match, Guernsey set a new record with an outstanding score of 105-18V, further cementing their position among the elite in competitive shooting.
The 2025 South African Open took place April 1-5 at the South African Bisley Union (SABU), the home of long-range target shooting in South Africa. SABU is the official governing body for fullbore target rifle, F-Class, and .303 shooting in South Africa. Established in the early 20th century, SABU evolved from provincial rifle clubs to become the national organization overseeing these precision shooting disciplines.
Guernsey, who competes with Lapua’s 308 Winchester Palma Brass, commented, “The 2025 South African Bisley Championship had unusually mild winds, and with high scores, the Grand Aggregate was decided by two Vs. Having a bullet as accurate and forgiving as the Berger 155.5gr meant that ammunition left over from the World Championship, and loaded for a different rifle, shot well enough to win the Grand Aggregate and the Long-Range Aggregate.”
